Day 7
And the challenge is on to see how long i can keep off the sugar, this time. I did try it once before and blogged about it here chocolate covered sugar. I do have an addiction and really need to kick the habit. It’s not that sugar is bad for you, if you eat it as a special treat, like birthdays and the like but me i tend to tuck into it every time i sit down at the computer, which is everyday.
You would think by now i wouldn’t need telling how bad it is for me, but obviously i forget and then i remember and then i forget again and the cycle continues. I tried to wean myself of first chocolate and then sugar but i think the longest i have ever gone is about a week or may be a little bit longer. I would say it’s time i grew up and realized that those little white grains of sugar does not control my life.
So what i am i going to have to sweeten things instead?
Honey as to be the first answer.
I have used honey in cooking and as a sweetener for drinks for a number of years on and off – but it doesn’t come wrapped in chocolate – so i always end up reverting back to first chocolate and then sugar. This food journey for me is about finding the real food instead the imitation food. This is why i have chosen honey first.
Maple syrup.
I don’t know a lot about maple syrup but i do know i like it, usually on pancakes or french toast. I won’t be using it all the time but will see what i can make it do for me.
On 100 Days of Real Food she talks about that although white sugar is a natural product it is also very processed. She decided that honey and 100% maple syrup are naturally produced and can therefore be classed as ‘food’. I agree with her and something that is naturally produced is good for the occasional treat.
There will also, not be any artificial sweeteners or anything that looks like it might be sugar. Again i am not going to go round looking at all the label, actually i am but there will be somethings that may take a while to banish or i may not banish at all.
I am now making 95% of the bread and i have had honey in bread before but it does make its presence known so i may stick with my teaspoon of sugar instead. That is yet to tested but i need to make bread tomorrow so may be i will try it and let you know.
Lots of maybe’s and some definite; definitely no sugar laden or sugar alternative laden foods, definitely use honey, maple syrup and, maybe use honey in my bread and any sweet things I may bake.

MAPLE SYRUP YAY !!!!!!!! XO
Maple syrup….mmmm….best tree sap in the world
I try to only let myself eat things with sugar if I baked them myself – one way to cut the amount I eat! Unfortunately, I don’t always stick to that rule
Good luck, and keep us informed on how it turns out!!
