I have written about Journal keeping before and it wasn’t that long ago, but with it being a new year (and all that) this is a good time to begin writing. Every year i buy a new book. I always choose one of the bests because not only has it to last the year but it needs to withstand the passage of time too. As i hope my all Journals will outlive me by a long way i hope i have chosen wisely. I hope that my grandchildren and my great grandchildren will learn from my Journals about who i was, what i was like and what life was about when i lived.
I am sure that by the time they get to read them that life will be very different. I know even in my life-time so far i have seen the invention of microwave ovens, flat screen televisions, computers you can rest on you knee, compact discs that play music and digital video discs, or DVD’s to you. Also automatic washers, dryers, vacuum cleaners that no longer need a bag. Huge supermarkets and online shopping. All though there are many more things there is one i have definitely missed out, mobile phones. Yes, technology as revolutionized our world and our lives, but what will does the future hold?
As this technology made us kinder? As it made it easier for us to do good, to help one another or as it made us selfish, self-serving and greedy for more? I am not going to answer these questions but occasionally i read back over the things i have written and i think ‘i wonder’. I also wonder how can i make life different, better for my children, granddaughters and all the rest that are to come in the future. There will be many people in the world who are praising God for this new morning and for just being alive and many more cursing because the alarm didn’t go off or the car won’t start.
Personally I think i too often write about the bad things that are happening in my life and forget to write about the good too. I know there are times when i miss too many days and i always promise to do better, but i am normal and although i enjoy writing my Journal it is not a habit i have set into my daily routine as much as i would like it to be. When i have spoken to others about keeping a Journal, including my children, they often reply that they don’t know what to write and why would anyone want to read about my life anyway and what do i write.
Answering the questions backwards; buy a book large enough for you to write one page a day at least. So if you like to talk a lot the chances are you will also write a lot too (honest). Mine is 17.8 x 22.8 cm and is olive green.
Why would anyone want to read what you have written? Simple because you are you; someones parent or grandparent and if you are really lucky someones great grandparent too. I would love to be able to read about my grandparents as i didn’t have the chance to meet them all in this life but there are no records and few photographs remaining.
So what to write about? This one is easy, write about you, your life and what is going on around you. To you it may not be exciting but to the generations to come it will. Write about the good days and the bad day.
Begin to day.

Great Advice Beverley, and I have always kept a journal, well several on the go.. One is always at my bedside and If I wake up wanting to write I reach and write .. Dont even think! just scribble what comes and thats often when I channel poems … They come without pause or mistakes..
Also very good to write dreams in also..
Its good to look back as you say and see where your mind was as we often write about our concerns…
Keep Writing! and Enjoy … xox

Nice. I haven’t done a paper journal for quite a while. Blogging has kind of been my substitute.

I think people rely on photos to tell there lives but photos dont say everything. Maybe i can do a scrapbook slash journal to keep it interesting.xx
